Youth and Family

Raising Jewish children takes a village.

At Sha’arei Torah, our youth groups and family programs create a warm space where children and families can celebrate Jewish life together.

  • Tefillat HaYeladim (Children’s Tefillah)

After the second aliyah each Shabbat morning, children gather for age-appropriate prayer, parsha activities, and games.

    10:00 – 11:15 AM

    Ages 3–6
    Led by Emma Schneider
    Located in the house

    Ages 7–11
Led by Elyssa Golschmiedt and Chana Wolfson
    Located in the board room

These groups help children learn the rhythms of tefillah while building friendships and a strong connection to Shabbat.

  • Teen Programming

Teen engagement at Sha’arei Torah is supported through NCSY, a national youth movement that inspires teens to deepen their connection to Judaism, Torah, and Israel while developing leadership and lifelong friendships.

Our local NCSY chapter is led by Debbie Rubinoff, whose dedication and warmth create meaningful opportunities for teens throughout the year. Programs include weekly gatherings during the school year, special events, and Shabbatonim that bring teens together for learning, friendship, and Jewish growth.

    Local teens participate in:

    • Shabbat programs and social events
    • Public school clubs
    • Educational gatherings and leadership opportunities
    • Regional NCSY conventions and experiences
    • A wide range of summer programs across North America

These programs provide meaningful opportunities for teens to grow Jewishly while connecting with peers across the community.

  • Babysitting

Babysitting is available during Shabbat morning services for children ages 1–8 and takes place in the house.

Because our synagogue sits on a beautiful 6-acre property with a pond and playground, we ask that children under the age of 9 remain in youth groups or with their parents at all times. Outdoor play is always welcome with appropriate supervision.

  • Shabbat Afternoon Youth Groups

During the warmer months, Rabbi Goldschmiedt leads Shabbat afternoon youth programming for children in grades 3–6.

Children are encouraged to join the community for Mincha, followed by fun programming and snacks at the shul.

    Shabbat Party

Children ages 5-12 are welcome to join Rabbi Goldschmiedt as we enjoy yummy food and learn the laws of Shabbat. 4:00 PM in the house on Shabbat afternoons.

    Nakh Class (Grades K-4)

Led by Larisa Vaysman, this lively Shabbat afternoon program introduces children to the stories and lessons of Nakh through engaging learning, games, snacks, and prizes. Larisa brings wonderful energy and care to each session, creating a warm and fun environment where kids can learn together and enjoy Shabbat with friends.

The class meets Shabbat afternoons at 5:00 PM in the house. A parent or responsible adult must remain on the synagogue grounds during the program.

  • Madrikhot-in-Training (MIT) Program

Led by Elyssa Goldschmiedt, the Madrikhot-in-Training (MIT) program gives girls in 7th grade and up the opportunity to learn, build leadership skills, and become more involved in the Sha’arei Torah community. Through learning, discussion, and mentorship, participants grow as role models for younger children and future leaders in the shul.

The group typically meets Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM.
